Clownfish Family crochet along: the inspiration

I don’t know why i’m obsessed with crocheting fish lately, maybe because my son’s doudous are an octopus and a seagull (for real!!!!)… ? Or just because they are so colourful that just makes me happy during the grey cold rainy days of winter (I think it’s official: I don’t like winter!).

Anyway, I was thinking of making a fish-themed baby mobile for a long time, and I have to admit I had a fun time looking at clown costumes and names, and imagining how to accessorize my little clownfish! Then I though I should make a video or tutorial explaining how to assemble a baby mobile, because some of my subscribers had asked me for it a while ago and I never took the time to make a proper one. Then my son was playing with my finished clown fish family before I actually got to assemble them into a mobile, and I thought it could also just make a fun play set. So I came up with this crochet along, and it will up to you whether you want to make a colourful mobile or just cool toys!

What is a CAL and how does it work?

CAL stands for “crochet along”, just like KAL stands for “knit along” or MAL stands for “make along”. Basically it’s a digital crochet event where everyone works on the same project at the same time. Different parts of the pattern are usually released on the way. Crocheting is often a solo hobby and I just love the idea that hundreds of other people are crocheting the same thing as you at the exact same moment, and you can share your progress and finished work with fellow crocheters from all over the world!

There are different types of CALs, free, paid, mystery… For this one I’ve decided to go simple and show you first hand what you are getting into!

Pattern release dates (scroll down for the links to the patterns!)

  • March 6: CAL launch and release of the first clownfish pattern on the blog
  • March 9: Release of the second clownfish on the blog
  • March 12: Release of the third clownfish on this blog
  • March 15: Release of the coral and other mobile accessories plus mobile assembly instruction

What are the rules to participate?

Since this a a free CAL, anyone can participate! BUT read carefully till the ends because there are some cool additional bonuses you can win 🙂

  • For each part release, the first participant who sends me a picture of the finished clownfish on my Instagram will be able to choose a pattern in my Etsy shop and get it for free! (there will be 4 different winners)
  • Photo contest: at the end of the CAL, the participant who sends me the best picture of the entire clownfish family and coral set on my Instagram will receive an exclusive new pattern design pdf that will be revealed during the CAL ! Send the final picture before March 19 ! SCROLL DOWN FOR THE REVEAL!!!
